- Waiting on
- Nothing from GitHub. For org data, each customer org owner must install the GitHub App (or approve the OAuth App if restrictions are on).
- Cost
- Free. Marketplace paid plans require an org-owned app, publisher verification, and financial onboarding (optional).
What you need first
A GitHub account (ideally an organization you own to hold the app)
Apps are registered under a personal account or an org; an org owner (or app manager) can manage it without tying it to one person. Org ownership is required to sell on Marketplace.
An HTTPS callback URL (or a loopback URL for local dev)
Callback URLs must match the redirect_uri exactly unless wildcard matching is enabled; up to 10 per app. Loopback URLs (127.0.0.1 / ::1) may use any port.
A globally unique app name (GitHub App: max 34 chars)
GitHub App names must be unique across GitHub and appear on the install/consent screen.
Secure storage for client secret, refresh tokens (and GitHub App private key if you use installation tokens)
Expiring user tokens (8h) rotate the refresh token on every refresh; the old one stops working, so writes must be atomic.
